Breast augmentation (a sophisticated sounding term) and breast implants are often used interchangeably to mean breast enlargement. However, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation refers to the surgery done to alter the size and shape of a person’s breast. This procedure involves inserting breast implants under a person’s breast tissue or chest muscle.

The average saline or silicone implants will last somewhere between 10 to 20 years, depending on individuals. Most people have their implants removed or replaced after 8 to 10 years though. You will be guided to look for signs, in order to know when you would require to remove or replace your implants.
It is almost impossible to determine how your breast implants will appear on you in years to come. However, over time, with age, the soft tissue surrounding your implants will be thinner, causing your breast implants to appear harder and more visible. Therefore, aging women will often opt for a second implant surgery or breast lift during or before this time.
